Today my vinyl order arrived from the uk packed very nicely. Accompanied with the vinyl is a free mp3 download of the album.

Has anyone else purchased this? I know there are a few porcupine tree fans here...

I must say I am very happy that I purchased the vinyl version, the sounds are excellent and with the lights dimmed it is definitely entrancing. If only I had someone to turn the records.

I haven't given this a great go yet. There are some songs but it quickly loses and regains focus, unlike PT which I think is a lot more polished.

I got the cd and the bluray.. I confess I have been a Porkies obsessive from early days. I have enormous respect for Steven, as musician, composer, producer, and mentor for other musicians. Lucky enough to have caught them on both Oz tours, and can only say, the musicianship was dazzling.
GRACE FOR DROWNING, particularly in surround, is meant to be taken in one sitting. It is not for bite sized chunks. I find it took five run-throughs for it to coalesce as a whole piece. Steven does nothing without full consideration. I think a good description would be ' ebb and flow'.
I can recommend the album LIGHTBULB SUN, as a particular sonic joy for any newcomers to the wonderful world of Porcupine Tree. But really, they have not done a duff album yet.
Of other interest, Steven has recently redone a lot of the King Crimson catalogue, as well as AQUALUNG. Good results all round.
Howling, Dingo.

I'll have to check this out in surround. Wilson has also given Thick As A Brick the stereo and 5.1 treatment, due out in September.

I have also just purchased the recent OPETH album HERITAGE. It features a two disc set with a lenticular cover. disc two is a surround mix by none other than Steven Wilson. Very tasty, and a large improvement on the straight stereo version. It moves them away from earlier abrasive efforts, toward a No-Sound sense of epic.
Any fans of No-Sound should visit their website. Amongst a large selection of downloads is their very faithful live take of PINK FLOYDs "ECHOES". Well worth a listen.
Howling in an epic way, Dingo.

I absolutely love Heritage, instantly a classic in my book, i will be listening to that for years to come. I didnt get the surround sound version because i dont have a surround system anymore

Also picked up Grace For Drowning the other week. Pretty good album, loving the atmosphere on it
