I would have to put a vote down for Lord of the Rings as a Prequel and Blade Runner as a Prequel and Sequel.

I prefer to think I thought of the idea haha. The Hobbit should be good. I think I would be just happy seeing the Trailer for now, but everyone is making their own "official" trailer with snippets of the original Lord Of the Rings Triology (in one scene in the trailer someone used Haggred from Harry Potter of all the nerve lol)

Yeah I was reading up on this but I couldn't see if anything had been confirmed as yet. For me any more Blade Runner is good, I know it may wreck the legacy, but I would have thought that some fans would love any new content, even as a sequel/prequel. I am sure they would be able to still enjoy the original as what it was.

Wow... All these responses thus far have targeted my taste in cinema and story telling.

The Coen Brothers : Nothing but quality. Future generations will look back on them the same way we consider Fellini and Hitchcock. I'm kind of glad they're always looking forward and haven't revisited one of their films.

Blade Runner : Huge fan... which is why, even though I yearn for more, I'd rather leave it the way it is - faults and all. The Final Cut is a thing of beauty.

Serenity : I too would like to see the other two films planned by Jos realised. It's a travesty that Firefly was cut short, but to borrow from Blade Runner; The light that burns twice as bright...

Neuromancer : This is too good not to be made in to a film soon and one I've been waiting for ever since reading the book when it first came out. From memory Gibson wants Chris Cunningham to be the one to bring it to the big screen.

Other sci-fi books needing to be made in to a film are : Rendezvous with Rama, Enders Game ( in the works ) , Stranger in a Strange Land, Eon, and The Mote in Gods Eye.

The Hobbit : You know it's going to be good.

Strangely enough I would love to see a prequel and sequel to the Harry Potter Series. I think you can never have too much of a good thing.

I would love to see a sequel to Dune, the style of the film is stunning. I have the temptation to see a sequel to Total Recall but I don't think there is much they could write home about as the story finishes off pretty well.

Personally, I think the Coen brothers movies are a bit of a mixed bag. Some are excellent, others not so good, in my opinion. I really liked Fargo, The Big Lebowski and The Man Who Wasn't There. I wasn't too keen on No Country For Old Men. I thought their remake of The Ladykillers was awful though. They should have left that one alone.

- prequel: some weird experiments went wrong, or alien invasion
- sequel: there were MORE than one monster !! Total destruction.

Predator
- prequel: Some sort of Yautja beginning. Klingon like empire etc.
- sequal: pretty much ruined by the last one (Xenomorph vs. teenagers, WTF!!)..

OK- I'll up you - I went to school with Peter Jackson (yeah, we were best mates! - Not! - he was in the year ahead of me and a bit of a quirky young bloke from appearances). My BIL is actually from Sydney, now living in my home town in NZ while the movie is being made.

A prequel to Alien with no humans. I always wondered about the appearance of the alien crew of the ship the Aliens were found on? It would be way cool if they were like Avatar people only with spaceships of their own. And I want it directed by Guillermo del Toro!

Well, there will be a prequel to alien, it will have humans in it though, but will show the space jockey etc. Rumours are that man finds a beacon on Earth, which tells us to go to a certain location in space. We go there, find the space jockeys. They're genetic engineers, trying to create the perfect being. We steal the technology. aliens are created as a result. Space jockeys are wiped out. So are humans. That's all I know so far, and I can't be 100% sure how accurate this synpopsis is. Ridley Scott is directing though. I believe principal filming has finished and it's in PPD.

HUH! I can beat that. I personally know the head chef of the "Lord Of The Rings" cast during filming. She was to prepare a meal for god when it announced that he was to chopper into the location for a meal with all.She ordered hams & all such things pork from the local butcher, about 27 if the remember is working, anyway as Jackson was landing in the chopper someone informed her that his religious beliefs don't do pork, he got the night before leftovers warmed up.

First I've heard of this. I'm rather glad to see that it is not simply just an Alien prequel. I liked the original Alien movie for its mystery and suspense, but the last two movies in the series were quite disappointing (Alien Resurrection - absolutely dreadful). I will be watching for this one with interest.

I would really like to see "lurker at the threshold" made into a movie (it has great potential imho). It was posthumously completed by Lovecraft's good friend, August Derleth.

At the mountains of madness was scheduled to be filmed, with Guillermo del Toro directing. It had great potential, but alas, Guillermo refused to accept Universal Studio's demands of a PG rating. He felt that it would compromise the movie, and Lovecraft's original vision. Universal retaliated by cancelling the entire project. Idiots that they are. Further proof that the modern studios have no conceptual idea of what makes a great movie. Hollywood has become tired and irrelevant in the world of film imho.

Yes. My bad, I meant to mention the title, but was @ work and rushed and forgot in my original post.

20th Century Fox and Scott are saying that we won't see Aliens in this new film, at least not like we're used to. But - there are a lot of contradictory comments being made here. Ridley has gone on record to say that we'll get the bejesus scared out of us with this new film. And some of the actors have been quoted as saying that their characters were attacked by Aliens. So, I think these initial comments are a big bluff by Scott and 20th Century Fox to try and hide and obfuscate as many details about the move as possible.

I must disagree with your thoughts on the last Alien film - I thought it was brilliant. Excellent character interplay, a solid story too, with good visuals and directing. SFX were very pleasing. And Sigourney gave an awesome performance. Now, I would agree with your comments if you were referring to the AVP messes...

I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of prequel or sequel to Avatar, especially with the amazing 3D. Something that showed more of the military machinery scenes which were good in 3D I thought. James Cameron seems to have a knack for something special, eg. Titanic, The Abyss, Aliens, Terminator, etc. (what a resume!).

But then I know there are some of you out there that loathed Avatar or thought it was overladen with some sort of political statement.

The other prequel that I would like to see (really a prequel prequel) is a Stars Wars film that shows the fall of the Sith and the Rise of the Empire and the Jedi order. Plenty of material already to go from the books and comics etc. But then Lucas has probably had enough.

Just think of all the merchandising and multiple re-release opportunities that could last for the next generation!

Milo - Lucas screwed up with the story on the prequels. The first one should never have happened. ep 2 should have been ep 1. ep 3 should have been ep2 but without Padme dying or the twins being born. The *real* ep 3 should have been vader increasing his powers and hunting down the Jedi. Oh well...The story could have been done a lot better, if only Lucas had swallowed his pride and gotten a professional writer of quality to do the scripts :/

The problem with the political statement in Avatar was that it was so obvious and pretty pedestrian. I'm hoping the new Alien movie doesn't get bogged down in ethical agendas tied in with DNA themes or turn into an adventure human vs Alien. Keep them dark, keep them surreal, make the story lines and the values obscure. Bring back some "pure cinema"...

C'mon David Lynch & Cronenberg still have a pulse and I think that del Toro guy is pretty cool. Robert Rodriguez also creates some special moments. Hal Hartley and Jim Jarmusch do it but they are not likely to make a scifi film - be interesting if they did - a sequel to Alphaville or prequel Metropolis?

I in a way group up with the New Star Wars films just as much as the originals so they do have a place in my heart, I think if they had a professional writer to do it, then its not really his ideas anymore. Since he started the originals off not much more than a few ideas and a low budget. I would love to see more Star Wars, I haven't tried to get into Clone Wars as it seems a tad bit too cartoony but there is so much more in it that I would love to know about the star wars world without having to read the books.

I've only recently starting watching the Clone Wars series (got both season 1 & 2 on blu ray on special for $20 ea!) and love them. Feels much more like Star Wars than the new trilogy ever did imho.

The Metropolis you speak of, was this the cartoon version created by the same creator of Astro Boy? I remember it as being a stunning visuals film.

I do know of the 1927 version of Metropolis but only by name, i've never seen it before.

Yes the story would be slow. I can't remember the exact numbers but there was quite a comprehensive research paper a couple years ago that showed the average shot duration of films in the past (50years ago?) was about 13 seconds, now they are closer to 2.5 seconds. I watch a lot of old movies, often with not so coherent story lines, I look for the world that is created and great cinematography - a good story is optional. A way to get into this, especially with silent films, is to watch them with your own music - I sometimes watch films like I listen to music - as visual and aural ambience...

I saw the restored version on DVD. I don't remember much about the plot either, but some of the images and sets were quite original for the time. The movie has had an influence on some more recent films. (Dark City springs to mind, also influenced by Nosferatu.)

I haven't been able to watch riddick yet. I have pitch black here as well so I am sure the chance will come up soon enough

The story in Avatar was stunning, I do wish we could see more of the Human world with all that awesome technology. I say they should stage the fight on earth. It would have awesome visuals.

Avatar II 3D would be awesome, but he stooged a bit of both the story and artwork for numer uno..

I really liked it too, kind of an alternative/indie SBS version with a great cast, showed the cunning of the alien and albeit pointless but still enjoyable Winona eye-candy. However the human alien hybrid was a unmitigated disaster.

Would luv to see more of anything BladeRunner comic/tv/movie but fear any prequel/sequel may find it tough to avoid answering the question was Deckard a replicant?

The Incredibles is one of my favourite animated movies and with a sequel teaser at the end is primed for more. Other animated movies with potential are Final Fantasy, original was a commerical flop but with the CGI already rendered and a more compelling/emotional story could be great. Sin City and Sky Captain both also had cool visual styles and would be great to see more.

Big Trouble In Little China was awesome and could have made a great series or at least a sequel with Jack fighting other supernatural bad guys.

Tarantino has some prequel potential with The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad before Kill Bill, a trashy b-grade grindhouse exploitation flick maybe, and the Vega brothers before Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, cool dialogue laden hip gangster buddy movie. Just read Vega Brothers is an idea all three are keen on.

Spinal Tap and The Professional have sequel potential to see how the aging touring rockers and an older Mathilda are doing 25/15 years later. Tough as both originals are brilliant and may tarnish them but for Leon read Portman and Besson are both interested and he has written a script but as he no longer owns the rights to the movie he cannot direct it and Portman will only do it if he does.
