I believe we are already going - not sure which night.

These used to be held at Festival Theatre. :thumb: Not sure if the theatre is being used for something, eg 'wicked', hence the use of the Ent Cent. :P I'll check and see if we are going on the Sat night.

Frankn, Pdot (and darthlaker)

I have a NAXOS dvd-a of The Planets (44.1/24 bit) which also has dts and dolby. It is 5.1 channel only. If you would like to borrow it pre concert, let me know (dartlaker, I checked the set-up and it said 2-channel 44.1/24 bit as well. Didn't see that earlier, so I selected it. The disc told me to set the dvd-player to 2-channel output! I thought that was just GOLD. LOL).

I also have a hybrid SACD of The Planets (Bruckner version?). And, a hybrid SACD (Telarc) of Cincinatti Orchestra doing Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Plus The Thunderbirds dvd of the two movies. (hybrid sacd's have multi-channel and stereo sacd tracks as well as a standard cd track).

Let me know if you are interested. See you at the performance.

Benje

edit

also have a Strauss 'Also Sprach Zarathrusta' in 2 channel dvd-a (not sure if it is 96/24 or 192/24 flac). Darthlaker has this also.

Thanks for posting DL.

It sounds like a wonderful event. I have edited the thread title to Sep 17 in line with your concerns about correcting the date.

well, as it isn't Hans Solo and Chewbacker (Chewie), it must be a couple of uniformed guys from the death star.... Boo, Hiss

Going as a wookie would be cool - I just wouldn't be able to hear the music though. And, the forecast is for hot weather.

Here is my shot of Cpt. Darthlaker Kirk and his communications officer Lt. Ooroo Uhuru

Great concert. Really exciting to hear live the movie music one knows well.
I think John Williams borrowed a lot from Holst's "Mars - Bringer of War" when he wrote some of the star wars music. Is that considered a tribute in composer circles?

Cool pix pdot, thanks!

I think Williams also borrowed a lot from Wagner - leif motif for each characters in particular......

What a great concert....it flew by at warp speed!

Was also great catching up with Pdot, Lazz, Frankn and Stump at the cozy Suzy Wong's bar near the venue....

Here's a pic of us having some drinks in their very cozy cellar....some nice tunes from the band upstairs filtered down to the cellar and provided some nice background music...

Acoustics in the cellar were very good unfortunately the band was not downstairs at the time but there were some instruments there so will have to go back again sometime....

DL

that looks like the sort of place you would go to arrange a trip to Alderonn on a Millenium Falcon (or something like that).

We went home and saw the last quarter of the footy, then played some Holst/Blue Danube/Thunderbirds.

By the way, there is some fool standing next to the conductor's podium in Stump's shot of the orchestra and crowd - there would be some reflective light from the skull I think...

ps full marks for the costumes DL - elegant and not overstated.

pps, we were fortunate to be perhaps 15 feet from the conductor, and so had great imaging of the orchestra, and an immediate feedback from the briefest of violin strokes to a strong stroke to the occassional 'pluck' of a string or two. I have been an ASO subscriber for many years, and view the Ent Cent Concert Hall with suspicion (versus Festival Theatre, the normal venue). The performance on Saturday night was one of my favourites, and exceeded all of my expectations. Less suspicion next time for the venue.

Yes, Benje, it looks like the Cantina! Never thought of that.....no sign of Greedo, Stormies or Han or Chewie though.....

You are lucky you had such a great spot! I'll have to get in earlier next time......

emesbee, yes, we could have done the City to Bay....although with Lt. Ooroo Uhuru's boots it would have required more warp speed!

we were looking forward to that funky 'cantina' music piece on the night, but it wasn't in the performance (it is in the eric kunzel space fantasy sacd). I reckon stump might have been in that cantina :P .

re 'the spot' - you need to subscribe to get those. We normally pick about 4 things for the year that we want to see. That gives us a discount ticket, good seats and ensures we see/hear things we are interested in. I'll let you know when we get the next subscription advice. Of course, we know we have a need for two tickets.....
