My mum is 84 years old and keeps buying disposable film cameras. Now she has a new TV (with USB in) and a computer, I figure it's time she moved to a cheap and cheerful digital camera. It'll be cheaper for her in the long run and I think she'll enjoy it. Here's a short list of what I reckon she needs:

* Less than $150.00.
* A zoom capability (4 X should be plenty).
* Built-in flash.
* Maybe movie capability.
* A rugged camera would be nice, but I think those fancy Panasonics are out of the price range.

I'm thinking a Samsung ST65 might be a good choice. Maybe even an ST90.

Any suggestions will be welcome.

Hi Trevor,

I'd have a good look at the Cannon Ixus range, might be a tad over your budget, but a worthy quality rugged little camera, in particular the Cannon Ixus 105 IS. I've never had much luck with the samsungs,they just seem to die on me,but my 5 years old Ixus,I can't kill it.

Hello ZB

Here's one.....

It is as sharp as a tack with good contrast. We had one until it was stolen from the car.
Teds's Cameras has them for $99 in Victoria (NSW?) , 14 Mpixels, 4x Zoom, Li-IOn Batt, SD-HC cards, 3 inch LCD, Flash, Movies....

I think it's an excellent carry everywhere camera even if one has a digital SLR.

Just make sure it uses a standard USB connection cable and Li-Ion battery...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will look past the Sammy and choose something else.
