Hi everyone. I'm slowly trying to put together a vintage system. Thought I'd share this video of a vintage system in action from YouTube. If I get close to the quality of this gear I'd be very happy.

BTW I'm also looking at Technics components from the 1970's early 1980's. PM me if you have something that may be of interest or needs a new home.

Many thanks

Fez...:)

Hi, Thats a nice set up in the youtube video

I have the following Technics

SU-Z2 Amp - 1980
SA-400 Receiver - 1978
Both in mint condition
M33 Cassette deck 1979
ST-8011 Tuner 1979
ST-8044 Tuner 1980-84

The cassette deck and tuners need a clean up, and I haven't got around to servicing the cassette deck as yet (too many pieces in the collection..... too little time...) I might even have an equaliser as well, will check on the weekend.

If any of the above is of interest (except the SA400), let me know.

Also, I believe that Danter *may* still have a SU-7700 available (needs repair, but that can be organised......)

Cheers

John

Nice stuff that Yammy gear. I remember having a Yamaha Tuner and I loved it. Their latest gear is retro looking -- back to the 70's or 80's as well. I love those illuminated square plastic lights on the face. QUOTE=LogicprObe;509166]Most of my gear is Yamaha of this vintage.

I have the matching tuner. Sounds fantastic.
I have 2 of the amps. With four outputs I can switch speakers on and off for the bathroom, kitchen, laundry and my computer room.........or blast the whole lot at once!

I only have one vintage item, a Yamaha CA-810 from about 1977-78.

I love it. :)

That Yammy amp is nice...very nice. Aren't they great looking pieces, and sound good too. Thanks for sharing that. Brings back fond memories of first listening to a "serious system" in the 70's and thought ...s$%t that sounds great. Bigger the better in those days. Probably driving a pair of AR speakers or something with 15" woofer!Need bass, lots of bass!

Speaking of Yamaha

My A-960 bought new back in about 1980.
Now doing duties in the office.

Was mated to a pair of JBL's (which need new surrounds) and to my Yammy PF-800 TT.

some of the Technics gear from the late 70's and early 80's is super quality and largely not on the radar of vintage hi-fi collectors. Good choice Fez

I don't have anything currently except this which runs my garage speakers & outdoors.

But I used to own this & its tuner.

http://www.vintage-a...2.html?begin=11

http://www.vintage-a...t/327/1649.html

The tuner was blindingly good, lovely warm sound, made AM sound so listenable compared to modern digital.

I've had lots of old gear over the years .... love my vintage :)

X2!!

I also have a Technics SA-T670 receiver here at the moment (not mine, here for repair), and at 100W per channel it is a definate sleeper.... (built by Fisher and Paykel in NZ .... they had some strict import laws in the 70's)

I can't get enough of the vintage, spend too much time trolling the internet trying to find the odd rare bits and pieces.

Normally try and pick them up, salvage and restore them and usually move them on 6 months later at a loss. I figure its worth it, I would have listened to and owned, if only briefly, about 40 sets of speakers ranging between 20 and 50 years old over the last 4 years.

At the moment my pieces are;
Luxman RX-103
Thorens TD-126 MkIII
DCM TW-1a
Bose 601 series 1
Janszen 204-b
Beovox 2400
Mission 701
Akai SW-177
DCM TF-250
KEF concertos

I wouldn't mind one of these: Denon PMA-S1 circa 1993 which is vintage enough in my opinion.

I should have mentioned that this is my ultimate; I owned an Akai 2650 and sold it without fully appreciating what it was.
I've been searching for it or one above for the last 4 years now;

Its been great -- all the discussion about vintage hifi. I appreciate the older hi fi for a number of reasons. Not least of which is the aesthetics. Some of the designs, the look and feel of the units, well they are simply just great to look at. And if you appreciate sound quality there is that element also. The current designs of a lot of hifi tend to be a little bland. However I did see and listen to a "Plessis" solid state and valve integrated amplifier recently. Both units looked refrehingly different. The valve amp was quite nice...and heavy at some 25kg.

Anyway enjoing the thread and I'm pretty new to this vintage appreciation, but it really is fun. Like they say A "man (or a woman) has gotta have a hobby"... or 2 or 3!

all true Fez and there is also one other positive with Vintage hifi, unlike modern gear, the old stuff rarely depreciates.
This 20kg beauty (circa 1976) didn't come cheap, but I'll get every cent back and more if I ever sell it. PeteMac already on the waiting list ; )

Now how did I miss a vintage thread? Went a bit nuts acquiring vintage gear a while back, mainly speakers.
Still have...
JR149 (rarer MkIIs)
JR Superwoofer
JR 150 (only one- was going to be a centre channel in a pie in the sky all Rogers surround system!)
Rogers Studio 1A
Kef Concertos
Kef 103.2 Ref
IMF TLS50s
IMF TLS80s
Proac Tablettes (original release)
Linn Kans (first series)
Realistic Minimus 7W

At least I cut back on the amps - so many need servicing...
NAD 3020 (series 20, a, b, e, i), 120
Marantz 1120, 2225 x 2, 240
Arcam Alpha x 2
QED A230 x2
Rogers Ravensbrook
Pioneer 7500 x 3, 7500 MkII
Sansui AU4900 (got a 3900 tuner to match)
Luxman 708
Technics SU7700 (spoken for)

Want to get the Rogers set up as a system. The IMFs, Kans and Proacs will all be fully restored when I get the time.
The Marantz 240 will be interesting to use with the IMFs when fixed (HINT HINT Skippy! - ha!). The rest, well, probably move on if anybody is interested.
Main: SB Touch / Rega P3 / Audio-gd CD7 / Audio-gd Reference 10.2 / Marantz 240 / Spendor SA1
Office: SB Touch / Audiolab 8000S / JB3s

Actually, while we're talking vintage gear, here's my main amps at the moment - a restored Sansui AU-517 and a restored Kenwood KA-6100:

Posted Image

I no longer have any vintage speakers in regular use, but I have a pair of big Realistic Mach Ones in the garage with reworked/modified crossovers and they sound great for what they are.

I've also got a Sansui TU-417 tuner, Kenwood KR-6340 quad amp running my outdoor deck system, and a Sharp quad amp running the garage system. There's also a Sansui AU-101 that I recapped/modified which is sitting on the floor awaiting repair... noisy transistor. I also have a few other bits and pieces in 'storage' at skippy124's cave, including a Marantz PM64mkII which is a bugger to fix, and a beautiful Sansui AU-719.

Holy sheet John! You must live in a tent in the backyard right, while your gear lives it up inside the house? Where do you keep all this stuff?

Plus, you must have a very understanding Mrs skippy124. Mrs Prana is very tolerant of my obsession, but she has been known to tut tut a few times. Your kind of collection would get me evicted - to the garage at least. Still, I'd be happy there amongst my lovely vintage collection that asks so little but gives so much.....

There is also the 27 vintage receivers, plus around a dozen or so amps/receivers that are here for fixing...... plus an unkown quantity of tape decks, tuners, cd players....

Mrs Skippy said I had to get a hobby to comfort me in my old age.... and Pete was getting interested in Vintage Hi Fi at the time so I sort of have permission from SWMBO............. (more like acceptance than permission I think......)

I have to thank everyone in this thread for saving these ..............these......things, attempts at audio perfection......budget or otherwise.
The guys that designed and built most of these were after the same thing as us.

I'm a vintage speaker guy, though old amps do it for me as well (just that they seem harder to come by).

Using Gale 401a in the main system and NS-1000Ms down the other end. Also have a seemingly rare pair of Braun (yes, the shaver company) L620/1 that need a full resto. Same as this-

-but mine are pretty ugly from the unforgiving tropics (unredeemable cabinets and no surrounds on the woofers). One day I'll get around to rebuilding them.
