Hey All

Im looking to purchase new speakers and have decided to up the budget to $10000.

Always been a Dynaudio fan and was looking at the Focus 220 but seen
the special on the C2s and would like to know what else
to audition.

Any suggestions of what and where. East coast pref as will be heading down south in
the coming weeks.

Will be running off a MF Nu Vista M3.

Thanks Glenn

ProAc D25/D38 might be within reach as well.

What do you mean by "heading down south"? Brisbane? Sydney? Melbourne? Hobart? :o :) :)

Disclaimer: The haters will get upset at me putting forward a suggestion, but here goes.

For that money it would be wise to audition the SGR CX4F's.

Rahn upgraded from the Dynaudio C2's to a pair of CX4F's. You can see his very in depth review here -> http://www.stereo.ne...-Speaker-Review

Although I didn't hear his old and new speakers in the same room the difference in AQ was massive in my opinion. The CX4F's being in a completely different class.

Given that the CX4F's are 4-ways with built in amplification (Active speakers) they are extremely good value for money. I honestly could not recommend anything over them around their RRP.

You could even sell your existing amp to put toward the speaker purchase.

YMMV.

Before we can give cogent advice, we need a few more details. Such as:

The size and shape of your listening room
The kind of music you prefer to listen to
Your existing speakers, or speakers you have heard and liked. And why you liked them
A $10k budget opens a very wide field. Even wider if you are ok with the idea of buying used.

I run Dynaudio C1s and love them. I can't comment on SGRs. Haven't heard them. There has been a lot of buzz on here lately on Zingali horns and Warwick is having a promotion ATM with significant savings. There are MANY other speakers which would make the cut.
Raysonic CD128, NAD 4225, Pioneer 508XDA 50" Plasma --> Primare I30, Schiit Lyr --> Dynaudio Confidence C1, AKG 702 --> :party

After reading the reviews on the SGRs I cant wait to have a listen.

My listening room is 5.5 x 6.0 x 3.0 open plan.

Existing speakers have been Dynaudio Contour 1.1, S1.4, 1.8, Audience 80, Focal 1007Be and Sonus FGaber Grand Piano Home.
My faves were the 1.8 and the S1.4 and would love to find a balance between the two.

My music varies but the main sit down and relax listening will be female vocals, acoustic guitar and live performances.

Thanks again for your comments.

Would have thought C1 (rather than C2) were a closer match to 1.8 or S1.4 but more authoritative bass.

If you want active speakers, a friend put me onto Event Opal (http://www.eventelectronics.com/opal)

Consider Totem speakers (e.g. Forest) if you like Dynaudio.

Glen, I think hearing the SGR's is a really good idea given a few of us crossed over from Dyn's to SGR's. I suggest you give Anthony (http://sgraudio.com.au/contact_us.html) the local SGR rep a call. Hes very helpful and friendly. I first heard my SGR CX4F in his demo room. The finish on the SGR's has to be seen to be appreciated and the service from SGR has been incredible. Enjoy.

Better to be kind then clever.

I've heard the C2 and they are pretty sweet kit, and of course they look amazing. Hoping to see some pix of 'em in situ!

Unfortunately the MF Nu-Vista M3 has been lost by the courier company and am using an old Harman Kardon reciever as a
Pre-amp and Yamaha M40 as the power.

Very nice Glenn.
How many hours have you had on them now?

Done about 10 hours now.
Only picked them up yesterday so just running background music now.
Probably take 6 months to get them fully run in but they sound
sensational already.

Apparently they go something like this (note its from another forum that has a dedicated thread on Dyns so the last sentence may well be biased :sorry: )

- 0 to 50 hours - Sounds great out of the box
- 50 to 150 hours - Dark and slow (you may be tempted to return them )
- 150 to 250 hours - Driver(s) starts to run-in with incredible speed and robustness
- 250 to 350 hours - Tweeters open up and image locks
- 350+ - You have one of the world's best loudspeakers regardless of price.

I will be holding on as long as possible but i did do my budget by $6000:hiccup:hiccup:hiccup

Off to listen to some more music.

G'day Stanley

Great to see you got some new gear.

Did you listen to any others? Impressions?

Hey Graham

I started with a budget of $4000-$5000.
Lifted that when I got an insurance payout for damage to my theatre and was looking at the CX4s and the DynC2s.
I found the SGRs just didn't suit me at this time, being a long time Dynaudio owner the C2s
just sucked me in straight away.
I listened to the paradigm S8 and was so dissapointed considering the price.
I now have no money to repair the theatre ceiling but it still works.
I will hopefully jump off the merry go- round for a while and just enjoy the music.

If you get back to QLD drop in and check it out.

Cheers Glenn

Interesting line up of possibles there. You always did lie Dyn's though.

Will drop by Glenn, next time I'm up.

Are you still around the corner from my brother's place in Bogan Village?

Don't know how I missed this thread.

Fantastic speakers you got yourself there Stanley. I hope that the Musical Fidelity amp situation resolved itself.

If the damage to the HT is mainly Gyprock, you can probably live with that for a while and have a go at replacing it yourself.

Best of luck.

lol, as long as the roof doesn't cave in ON top of the new speakers.

Mate that's dedication to music.

Amazing how you can do without the essentials of life, so long as you have the little luxuries.
