Hi my friend
I am a humble music listner and looking at your system I don't think that I could ever be able to afford that.Congratulation, you have done really well. But now the question is how the esoteric system sounds??I have seen and heard lots of very fancy equipment with very ordinary sound costing a fortune.Martin Logans electrostatics,Burmester amps, have seen it all.Price tag..20.000-30.000 ,even more.Sound...well,that's another story. To me,nothing special, waste of money.
I am using a fullrange Coral beta 10 inch speakers in original cabinets and an Audio Note 300B kit,Audio Research(from the 80s)SP-8 and D-70 combo. All I can tell you,the sound is amazing and the price tag is 3000-5000$.I would love to listen to your system, the look it's not important to me...nor the price tag. Till than it's another expensive "combo" which doesn't impress me at all.I wonder what sensitivity would have the speakers with so many drivers involved. The cones of the woofers are made of a heavy mesh ,I don't think they would be to sensitive.I looked already and it's what I expected:
Impedance loading:
6 Ohms nominal, 4 Ohm minimum 20 Hz to 20 kHz
Sensitivity:
87 dB @1m, 2.83V input
To me looks prety bad. What's going to happen with the exposure to dust of the woofers??how are going to clean them???there is no "back" covering the drivers.
You can't use realy the speakers with tubes amps, they are not sensitive for a nice 300B single ended amp or similar.See,to me it's not something I would buy.The speakers won't have much bass, for sure because they are almost open bafle.Anyway,I don't want to upset you with my comments.Good luck and I hope the time will never come when you go to another friend of yours who dosn't have much money and plays something simple which would sound better than your expensive gear,it happens a lot of time.Just an fullrange single driver stuck in an pair of cabinets bought for 20$ from the Op Shop arround the corner and an old Leak Stereo 20 or an Audio Note kit 300B single ended amp(probably only 8W per channel) running a home built passive preamp,etc,etc...and the gear PLAYS MUSIC...it's not made to impress with the look. Take care D.
To put things in context:
1. New member joins SNA (join date: Jan 2011)
2. Said new member proudly shows off his system in The Showcase
3. He receives above post in response (in effect - "I have never heard your system, you are a fool to have spent so much money, my cheaper system will outperform yours").
Now, those who know me know that I have gone to bat for new members many times in the past. Even if a new member says something really really stupid (and I am not implying for a moment that the OP of that thread is guilty of that), it is our duty as older members to gently point them in the right direction and not do anything to put them off.
As some of you might remember from the Adelaide Speakers thread, I am willing to fight for people who have post counts less than 10, and in the process, hand out bans and risk losing sponsors in the process. Make no mistake - this is something we feel strongly about.
To continue - posting a system in the Showcase is an act of trust and of sharing. Yes, you get to see all that great gear but you can also see how other people live. They are showing pictures of their own home, after all.
I personally get a lot of enjoyment out of looking at systems on the Showcase and I am sure many of you do, too. However, I do not expect everyone to agree with the way other systems have been assembled. I certainly do ask myself "WTF were they thinking??" from time to time but I either keep my thoughts to myself or try to post something constructive.
I think posts like the above are unforgiveable. They show extremely bad manners and very poor taste. I was gratified to learn from the OP that he has received multiple PM's of support. It shows there are decent folk on SNA after all.
