Not really an acoustic only guy but I've always been a huge fan of Stephen Stills's acoustic guitar playing. The acoustic live version of Black Queen on my CSN box set sends chills up my spine every time I hear it. Also love "4+20" and his version of Blackbird.

Goran Sollscher - Here, There And Everywhere: Goran Sollscher Plays The Beatles. Great transcriptions, successful when so many classical pop albums don't work so well
Julian bream - granados and albeniz album from the early 80s
John Fahey - the great Santa Barbara oil slick
John Williams' first all Barrios recording
Look up mats bergstrom - I have two very interesting albums of his although can't remember the titles off hand
Robert Fripp string quintet - the bridge between - Fripp with the Californian guitar trio and Trey Gunn
And a bit left of field perhaps - Nigel North - Bach on the lute 4 CD set - fantastic transcriptions, recordings and performances

Just got this lovely acoustic guitar CD the other day. Apparently it's been popular and selling well. It's actually a 2 disc release, the second being a DVD.

More info here: http://www.milosguitar.com/

You could say it's my self-titled album! (nah, I'm better looking).

I second this suggestion: Michael Hedges recorded for the Windham Hill label. All his albums are divine, with gorgeous compositions played on his oddball self designed guitar-thingies. His live album even includes some vocals. It is called LIVE ON A DOUBLE PLANET. But as a taster, go for'Aerial Boundaries', an album of almost unbearable beauty. Michael died in an auto accident several years ago. I could not listen to his music for a long time, as it was like his soul and spirit laid bare, living on, and it stirred up real feelings of loss in me. I have returned to it recently, and bask in it's radiance. Howling, Dingo.

This is from Pat Metheny's favourite ECM record - Solstice - Ralph Towner, Jan Garbarek, Eberhard Weber, Jon Christiansen

Ralph is one of my favourite musicians, let alone (acoustic) guitarists. Almost anything by him is a recorded treasure and he has been recording for more than 40 years.

I will keep it simple and say that basically anything played/ recorded by Tommy Emmanuel is virtuoso standard IMHO.

Anything Christy Moore - Christy isn't a bad guitarist, and Declan Sinnott plays a good guitar too imho.

Same goes for Christy Moore's brother, Luka Bloom. I hadn't really picked that up from his recordings, but saw him live at Womadelaide last year (or the year before, I lose track). He was pretty good, definitely worth seeing live.

Hey Rantan, you should try & get hold of Joe Robinson's, "Time Jumpin'", cd. Joe was Tommy's protege from age 13 & Time Jumpin was recorded when Joe was 17. It is solo acoustic guitar with one track a duet with Tommy. Tommy reckons that Joe is now better than him. Joe is now living & working in Nashville. Check out the youtube clips. I'm a fan because he's just a local bush kid & his parents are friends of mine. Joe is a gifted freak on the guitar. Voted best new talent in the Guitar Player magazine in 2010.

Wow, that's great Mikey. I will make sure I check Joe's music out thoroughly. Do you know if the CD is readily available?:)

Thanks very much for the heads up.:):)

Mate, not sure. His new record is a very commercial effort, with him singing his self penned songs & a band. Plays a mix of electric & acoustic axe. It's called, "Let Me Introduce You". I think his management & the Nashville environment wants him to have broader appeal. But Time Jumpin' is truly incredible.
