if anyone is planning a trip through there today re-think it.
Both tunnels are closed
Thick, black smoke has filled Melbourne's Burnley Tunnel after a major crash. There are unconfirmed reports two people were killed in the accident.
A truck and two or three cars were said to be involved in the accident in one of Australia's busiest and longest freeway tunnels, which travels under the Yarra River.
Hundreds of people have been evacuated, leaving their cars in the tunnel and walking out.
There were reports of thick, black smoke billowing out of the tunnel.
Emergency crews were at the scene and extensive traffic delays were reported.

We can only hope now that any emergency services can handle this type of thing.
I remember hearing about a major accident which was similar in a European tunnel linking countries between the alps,it was very BAD!

aparently the evacuation plan worked well.
all motorist were told to turn their engines off and then told to leave their cars and walk away.
So they got everyone out of there without any problems, there were reprtedly 60 firefighters on hand and the fire was extinguished.
