Uriah Heep was a terrific show last night at the Palais. The crowd was in full voice singing along.
My son who didn not know anything about Heep really apart from having had a listen to their Wake The Sleeper album walked away saying it was a perfect rockshow.
His words, how can you top that, that was perfect.
Think I will find some Heep on his mp3 player soon :)
Me personally only having seen the David Byron version of UH was mightily impressed with this line up. Looking forward to their upcoming album, think Mick Box said released this month.
Solid show, will be back if they return as they promised :(
Hope they get a better support act nect time, that band called Fastrack was shite lol.

Wasn't it great!!??

One of the best I've seen except for some dodgy sound at The Enmore.
I can forgive that just on a terrific performance.

And the support band Neon Heart were terrible.
What happened to Supernaught like the tickets said?

Yeah mate, was great. Think my son has become a Heepster now, all I hear emanating from his bedroom is UH now ;)
My tickets never said anything about Supernaut, just Special Guests so no idea what happened there.
Have a bootleg of the show you went to, only listened to a couple of tracks but it was all good :)
Not seen a bootleg for the show I went to pop up yet, may'be there isn't one,

George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic.....nobody but nobody puts on a show like these guys. Also Mavis Staples, Aaron Neville with The Blind Boys Of Alabama. Talking serious legends here. Those white boy rockers leave me cold I'm afraid. "What ever it is it's gotta be funky" (JB)

While it wasn't so good on Wednesday night I find the show quite good. Some very clever ideas to get a laugh in it.

Hugh Cornwell last night at the hi-fi bar in Melbourne.
Second set was "Rattus Norvegicus" played as per album.
Absolute GOLD! Met SETFAN there too, he's a good man.

Hugh was also good in Sydney. Played 2 very long sets. The two other guys in the band were very competent with the bassist matching JB. But, as a comparison, having no keyboard player made it sound as if one channel had gone bung on the hifi.

Yes, I agree. We saw him at the Hi Fi Bar in Brisbane. In some parts I noticed I was closing my eyes and doing "air keyboards". I then noticed another person doing the same thing!
As much as I liked the Stranglers 2 years ago, it was nice to hear Hugh's voice.

I made the trip over from Adelaide to see Hugh Cornwell in Melbourne...and it was worth every penny and more! If he was on again the following night, I would have been back again! This year I have seen Gang of Four, Elvis Costello, Lloyd Cole...and seeing Hugh was my favourite yet. Got his latest album signed, he is still writing good stuff.
Yes, met up with Yamaha Man briefly at the end, and he enjoyed it as well...pity I caught the red eye back the following morning, as would have been good to take him up on an offer of a beer and a listen to his Wilsons! Hmmm, maybe the next trip over... :-)

In a couple of weeks time I'm off to Sydney for Vivid Live. Will pick up two Spiritualized gigs (on 27th and 28th). They are playing the Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space album in full with brass, strings and Gospel Choir!. The following night it is Architecture in Helsinki. I have the night off on the 30th which is a good thing given my age and lack of stamina! On 31st and 1st June I'm off to see The Cure (revisiting my mid teens) play their first three albums. All gigs at the Opera House, all seats in the stalls, nothing further back than row G, all central - beeeeeeeeeuuuuutifulllll........(10 years ago I'd have moaned about seated gigs, but I'm an old bastard now). I saw them play the songs off the Faith album in Reading (April 1981) and London (May 1981) so this is a 30th anniversary blast from the past for me.

OK, so Spiritualized were good on the Friday and outstanding on the Saturday. I left "souveniers" of both nights on Dimadozen, for those of you with access/interest. Architecture in Helsinki were really entertaining, but a bit poppy for my tastes. I am totally shattered today - three gigs in three days has left me in tatters. Am off to The Cure tommorrow night (seats in the middle of the front row of the circle) and Wednsday (sets in middle of the third row of the stalls). God knows what state I'll be in on Thursday morning.......

Another brilliant Kiwi gig coming up at the Northcote Social Club (2nd September) at a measly $23. The Adults are a project driven by Jon Toogood (Shihad) including Shayne Carter (Dimmer, Straightjacket Fits, Double Happys etc), Julia Deans (Fur Patrol) Tiki Taane (Salmonella Dub), Anika Moa, Ladi 6 and more. These guys are the cream of kiwi indi artists. I can guarantee the sound quality will be well dialed for this gig. Go youtube:

I went to this last Saturday.
Mavis Staples,
Joss Stone,
Paul Dempsey,
Emmanuel Jal,
John Schumann,
special guest artist Rickie Lee Jones.
The Black Arm Band including Archie Roach, Lou Bennett, Shane Howard, Emma Donovan, Shellie Morris, Mark Atkins
and other special guests.

Too many highlights but the standout must have been Rickie Lee Jones, Mavis Staples and Joss Stone belting out ACDC's "It's a long way to the top".

I'd never seen Mavis Staples live before... all I can say is wow! What a brilliant singer and what presence. Best gig I've been to in a long time

John Cleese's one man show is coming to Oz next March

Wow, I thought I'd buy a coupla tickets.

Lets see,
that's 2 tickets @ $116.90
handling charge @ $7.75
Card fee of 2.3% @ $5.38 (no option to pay online any other way)

Near enough to $250 for a-man-show

Then there's parking, and ~$10 a drink in the foyer

I'm up for $300 and I haven't eaten yet!

As much as HE IS the messiah, I aint paying that sort of money for an hour or so of 'one man show'

Ya get grumpier, as ya get older!
