Was just looking at the Hypex website and noticed they're now selling their own NC400 kit form mono blocks. Rough estimate once posted and slugged with duties and tax I would guess these to be around $2500 landed. I've been using these same amps for over a year now and think they're fantastic value. Drives my Magnepan .7's with ease and some little power hungry Kefs I have too. Would be a perfect match for the LS50 me thinks.

Buy the Ghent cases ($475 AUD for two) and NC400 parts seperately (NC400 + SMPS600 = $775 AUD each), so $2,025 total (plus something like $50 shipping).

You save 15% tax / duty by ordering each package so the total is under $1000 AUD.

Buying the Hypex kits costs >$1000 each meaning you'll pay ~$400 in tax that you could avoid entirely buying them separately.

The amps I have seen of yours, were the same kits or different.

Here's a review on the building of these on youtube. A bit laughable the carry on at the end but shows how simple they are to assemble. Don't even have to solder XLR connectors in current kit.

Buying kits separately would possibly get around $1000 limit.

@mwhouston  Yes they are expensive compared to other class D but compared to other amps of any class they are exceptionally good value. What I like is the clarity, resolution and detail yet it isn't harsh or grating. Sound stage and dynamics are very good too. I heard the Mola Mola and it is less forward sounding but I wouldn't say the nc400's are forward. They're just very easy to listen to. I've usually been doubtful about burn in but I think for these that may actually be true. I've also been finding whether it's placebo or not that they sound better if well and truly warmed up or even left on. I turn them off as they use around 15watts each when idle.

I tried them on @@Addicted to music 1.7 maggies late last year and obviously his magtech was superior but given the price of the ncores you could happily forget about Magtechs if the budget was limited. Other class D amps I've heard are the Anaview and the Pascal. These too are nice sounding especially the Pascal but as far as I know these are only available to commercial buyers.

@@legselevens while I still have the T4 is it worth bringing it around for a comparison with the Hypex(s). The guy who bought two of my T4 amps bought the second for his other system because he said he just could get the clarity and detail from others amps he had. His speakers were $30K and CD player $12K so he had some good gear to listen to them on. Also he just paid $3K for a few meters of speaker wire!

PM me if you would like a comparison short or long I'm happy to come over. I'm intending to sell this amp either on SNA or eBay but would like to hear how it stacks up. As I have said a few times this is the most "un-D Class" sounding amp I have built or have heard.

@@s2020 Good advice. The hypex modules are very over priced compared to most other good sounding Ds.

As a matter of interest, I was considering bi-amping,and using class D for the bass drivers and AB for the mid / treble.

In your view, would the hypex module be better than Ice power, watt for watt.

Fwiw, they'll be driving large B&W floorstanders.

I rekon the nc400 will do well with your B&W, I've heard the ice, I like the Hypex better. Make sure you audition a set with the B&W first.

Relegating Hypex nCore to bass duty is like using a Bugatti Veyron to drive to the servo to pick up milk.

I was going to order the modules from Hypex direct, so an audition is difficult.

Yeah, point taken. If Ice is just as good below 300Hz I'll use it instead. OTOH, it might be interesting to hear the hypex driving full range too, just to see how far class D has come.

I heard the new Bel Canto Ref 600M's on the weekend I thought they were sensational, but 8 grand for a pair of class D mono's seemed a wee bit overpriced.

then you should like the NC400, as the ref600M is NC500, there will be slight different sound, but i think overall they should be within family.

Can't go wrong with these bro. They also include opamp rolling...bonus...

From what I've heard, the Bel Canto ref 600M uses a proprietary 3 pole LP filter, instead of the single pole network that's standard with the module.

If I go ahead and buy the modules or the fully built amplifiers from the link above, I'll design my own LP filter and optimise it for my speaker's impedance  + series cable capacitance.

I did this and can highly recommend the Ghent cases. They shipped super quick and the quality is outstanding - best cases I've seen by a long shot. All up just a smidge over $2000
