emesbee
Once you start discovering music, you will never stop. My collection started off quite small, and is now out of control. By all means check out currently spinning threads, youtube clips etc., anywhere you can find music. In the end though, take your own path, and find what appeals to you. Welcome aboard!! mwhouston
My father played a couple of instruments and we always had a radiogram in the house. Music was a real big part of my life then and now, 64 years down the road, it still is. I sit and intently listen to music 4 hours a day five days a week. All my three systems are DIY so for me it's s double banger. I love to hear what I play and love to hear what I play it on. Basically listen to classical but bridge out to my old rock/pop LPs and buy jazz and another genres. Yes keep your mind open there is a lot of nice music out there. I moved from rock/pop to jaz then to classical. Doesn't stop me enjoying them all.
Wizard587
Thanks All, I’ll definitely check out those sub forums. If you were to see my daily Spotify consumption, you would see that I have definitely kept an open mind, I go from jazz to classical to metal to country and everything in-between. Always keeping my ears open to suggestions from anyone! I’m an electrical engineer and since a young age I have always loved electronics, but this revolved mostly around logic and programming. I would love however to get into some DIY audio projects and looking at some of the sweet DIY tube amps out there has me wide eyed at the possibilities… any suggestions for information on this stuff? Cheers, Simon.

Wayne Elliott
About half the RS list is good. There are just too many ordinary to worthless albums on there. Re-looking at the list I think it's numbered the wrong way around. Outkast at 1? WTF! Although how on earth anyone can put that piece of crap Sgt. Peppers at 1, let alone Top 500 is beyond me. progladyte
If you're a young whipper snapper (under 30), then you may or may not appreciate a lot of the good stuff that was created in the 70's when rock music really came of age. There are just so many damned fine albums from that period that still stand the test of time. It's all about discovery and being prepared to listen with a pair of open ears / open eyes (for the covers) and an open cheque book. Having said that however, there is still a lot of excellent music from the last 2 decades, (Porcupine Tree / Butterfly Effect / Anubis / Tool / but it seems to these aging pair of ears that the more memorable / timeless / creative stuff was written earlier. If you're into rap, then I really can't help you with suggestions as that is one genre I don't get. Here's some more well known suggestions from a wide variety of genres but mainly from the earlier periods: Al Di Meola, Allan Holdsworth, Alphaville, Anglagard, Anthony Phillips, Anubis, Atomic Rooster, Ayreon, Barclay James Harvest, Beastie Boys, Be Bop Deluxe, Big Country, Bill Bruford, Blackfield, Blackmore's Night, Blind Faith, Blind Guardian, Brand X, Camel, Captain Beyond, Caravan, Cocteau Twins, Coldplay, Cream, Crowded House, Dead Can Dance, Depeche Mode, Dixie Dregs, Dream Theater, E.L.P., Echo & The Bunnymen, Ed Sheeran, Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, Fairport Convention, Family, Fates Warning, Foo Fighters, Frank Zappa, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Grand Funk Railroad, Hunters & Collectors, I.Q., Ian Anderson, Ian Matthews, INXS, Iona, Jack Bruce, Jackson Browne, Jean Luc Ponty, Jeff Beck, Jellyfish, Jethro Tull, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Satriani, Kamelot, Kansas, Karnataka, Kayak, Kenso, King Crimson, King's X, Led Zeppelin, Live, Loreena McKennitt, Love, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Marillion, Mastermind, Midnight Oil, Mike Oldfield, Mountain, Neal Morse, Nektar, Nightwish, October Project, Opeth, Ozric Tentacles, Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Queen, Quicksilver Messenger Service, R.E.M., Riverside, Return To Forever, Richard Thompson, Robert Plant, Roxette, RPWL, Rush, Sebastian Hardie, Shadow Gallery, Simon & Garfunkel, Simple Minds, Sky (GBR), Sonny Landreth, Split Enz, Spocks Beard, Spooky Tooth, Stanley Clarke, Steeleye Span, Steve Hackett, Steve Hillage, Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Steven Wilson, Stratovarius, Strawbs, Tangerine Dream, Three Dog Night, This Mortal Coil, The Beatles, The Corrs, The Cruel Sea, The Doors, The Flower Kings, The Moody Blues, The Rolling Stones , The Watchmen, The Who, Threshold, Todd Rundgren, Tommy Emmanuel, Traffic, Transatlantic, Ultravox, Uriah Heep, Utopia, Vanden Plas, Wishbone Ash, Within Temptation, Yes etc.
