Good compact receiver for bedroom

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm interested in setting up a compact receiver with speakers in a bedroom and tossing up between something new (maybe onkyo) or vintage (maybe an on old Aiwa Ax 50 - I used to own one in the 80s).

Any suggestions appreciated. I haven't chosen speakers but have found some old Corals (again, I had a set of these in the 80s and really liked them)

Any advice welcome.

For something a little different, have a think about the Linn Classik CD Receiver. Very solid performer and small footprint is perfect for a discrete bedroom system and has headphone output as well. Can be had for around the $500 to $600 mark.

NAD D3020 provides a small footprint form-factor, and comes with bluetooth connectivity.  Add an AppleTV and you have AIrplay which may help with your radio as well...

Obviously a 2 channel amp, so 5.1 no good...

I have a couple of used silver coloured Onkyo CR-70 as shown in the link if interested in trying, I used one of them in a bedroom system in the late 1990s with a small sub/sat speaker system. Was looking at selling one of them for $50 to $75. Something like this might suite if after something a bit more vintage and relatively cheap !!!!

I now use a Pro-ject Streambox DSA with matching Pro-ject CD player, no built in FM tuner, but has internet radio, streams Spotify etc.
