I have been impressed by the high standard of Kuzma products and favourable reviews they receive worldwide.

Having recently heard the entry level Stabi S/Kuzma Ref arm at PMG (Lyra cartridge) and having been very impressed with the sound, I was wandering if anyone on the forum owns the next level up Kuzma Reference or other high-end Kuzma turntables?

Feedback on sonic performance as well as ownership experience with Kuzma would be appreciated to assist me in my search for my next turntable.

Seriously dissappointed with the music being produced from a newly acquired HK AVR355.

I'm running what i thought was a fairly accomplished list of equipment with this unit,

Paradigm Monitor 11's V.5

Emotiva XPA-2 power amp

Marantz CDP

After upgrading my amp from an old two channel HK3270 RDS that had served me well for the best part of ten years, i thought it time to step into the 21st century and enjoy all the spoils of the digital age...i needed an amp that was capable of satisfying my music needs but also able to produce 5.1 movie action with some degree of competence.

Picked up a store soiled 355 for $900 and walked away pleased that i had made the right choice after reading many forums and reviews that all praised the musicality of this amp. Power was not an issue as this is more than taken care of by the XPA-2.

As soon as i hooked this thing up i was shattered at how horrible it sounded when playing music, regardless of the mode chosen, or the source it was fed. Movies are a whole other ball game and i can't praise it's abilities highly enough for this purpose, no issues there.

The sound is harsh as hell when playing any sort of distorted guitar or loud vocals, simple elctronic stuff is ok, as is classical but again as soon as you push it the sound is shouty and painful :(

Any assistance that can be offered would be much appreciated, i want my music back.

Cheers

I have recently completed a pair of OB speakers, the tweeters are 54 year old SABA's, they sound great but I would like to try something a little brighter. The SABA's are like honey, sweet & smooth.

Can anyone recommend speakers they know sound good in an OB situation, money is limited so be gentle. I would be ok buying them second hand to save the dollars.

As the SABA's are open basket there is only one in each speaker, my other questions are;

Would I need two in each speaker?

Back to back?

How would they be wired?

Thanks

I'm looking at the Esoteric SA-50 for a friend who has no need for anything but iTunes (and one day flacs) whilst having some benefit of a few High Res recordings on SACD in the meantime.
This unit has been designed with this in mind and has a digital pre-amp built in and switching between the SACD and digital inputs.
Has anyone else gone down the path of a pre-amp less setup?

Not sure if this has been discussed before...or even if I'm completely wrong...

Just looking at the price and quality of components around these days, it strikes me that for a given dollar spend, the quality you get is the same or better than what the same dollars bought you 15 years ago. Taking inflation into account this represents a remarkable thing don't you think?

Some areas spring to mind where things have become ridiculously cheap compared to what they used to be: DACs and Chinese amps - valve amps in particular.

Why is this?

Hi All,

As the title states! I've read around, and there's a lot of contradicting opinion on this. I'm about to throw a second soundcard with optical out on it into my PC, i'd rather spend as little as possible so i have a bit more to play with buying the amp. My understanding is that optical out to the amp (using the amp's DAC, no fancy things inbetween) should generally preserve the original signal from my media player, therefore spending $200 on an Asus Xonar should not really offer any improvement over a cheaper card? I understand there may be differences in the quality of componentry used, but it seems unrealistic to me that this would be mind bogglingly obvious during playback.

So am I really going to wish i'd spent $200 over... $60?

This is an Audio Fidelity production, and it is obvious they take a lot of care with the product from start to delivery. Beautifully packaged, nicely presented, and superb to listen to. I cannot fault this, and looking forward to the next installment in the Kate Bush remasters by Steve Hoffman.
Not sure whether i need just an amplifier or a receiver to drive 2 channel stereo. If i have the amp will the bluray movies sound ok? ( I have a ps3 slim for bluray and music), or should i go with a receiver that carries these formats bearing in mind i only need 2 speakers left an right.
My speakers are bookshelf size and are apparently have a standard fitting to take an omnimount. The manual is a bit thin on this.
Q2: where to get it from (overseas is fine if I have to)?

Morning all,

I'll start by saying that this is my first venture of this size. I'm playing with the idea of making some speaker cabinets myself but have no idea really what I'm up against.

I have access to near any power tool under the sun, and am usually pretty handy, but haven't tried something of this style before, despite having read about it and pretending for years.

I'd be looking at designing some cabinets to suit a pair of 10" Goodman Axioms. I have the original cabinets, which were built to goodman specifications approximately 30 odd years ago. What I intend to do is make something taller and thinner in order to try and achieve the ~90L volume that is reccomended to go with them.

So I realise that this is probably a topic as old as this forum, if anyone would be able to help point me in the right direction in so far as gathering info with regard to a build like this, or places that do these kind of builds, I would be very grateful.

-John
