Hi all, a quick question: I've been told that cables don't matter for a sub - a cheap $20 cable is just as good as a $100 cable, is that right?

Wrong. I was in that camp, until I swapped out cheap cables I get for free for a couple that retail for about a hundred bucks...

Sub cables, OMG!
Get some good solid core stuff, and make sure the cable only has one conduit path, not a inner and outer wire arrangement. Some of the big soft "monster Cable" stuff is good and not very expensive...........................
Oh no! I think I can see the Gallow's Pole coming my way after that one!!!!!

the only way to truly answer this question is to borrow a length of expensive cable from a shop and try it for yourself.
there are many variables, and only you can effectively test all of them :)

Hi all, a quick question: I've been told that cables don't matter for a sub - a cheap $20 cable is just as good as a $100 cable, is that right?Cable effects are vastly overrated. However they are very high profit lines so it makes sense for the saleshack to try to sell you one.
Provided it has sufficiently low R, it will be fine. Try some 2.5mm mains cable.
