Hi Mick,

The Wharfedales are a greatbuy. For under a grand it's hard to imagine getting anything that would make as much noise, however, they are not the most revealing speaker and not something I'd like to listen to much music on. For a budget HT system, this is as good as anything in it's price range. Just don't expect to be overwhelmed by subtleties.

BTW, The subbie is pretty good.

If you are anywhere near JB Southland, let me know, I might be able to do 'em even cheaper for you as an SNA "friend" PM me if you want me to check this out for you...

Cheers

M

I agree......After just singing the praises of Accusound on your other post (couldnt believe the other guys comment on Accusounds)..........i reckon if you can afford these Warfedales...get em.....they may be a blunt instrument as far as clarity is concerned but have power to burn.....just make sure you match the amp to the speakers......ya dont wanna go driving them with 90 watts per channel..:)....good option for HT...bit sketchy for 2 channel.

Thanks for the input you blokes, oh to win tatts!

Pardon the ignorance, but could you explain "ya dont wanna go driving them with 90 watts per channel" for me?

Ive never had a decent sound system in my life you see, ghetto blasters blew me away in the 80s lol.

My dream is to walk into Encels joint one day and say "gimme the best you got"!

90 watts a channel.........i meant make sure you match the reciever to the speakers.......try to budget for a reciever/amp that will output 150 watts a channel

cheers

G'day,

This is my first post here so be gentle :)

JB have this same speaker pack on sale again/still, I havn't gone and had a listened to them yet but they fall into my price range. What Im hoping is that someone can suggest a receiver that will power these speakers adequately. I can spend upto around $1200 on a receiver, I was looking at the Onkyo TX-SR606 (JB have it for $1098) but it is only 90W per channel @ 8ohms. From whay I have read here so far I should be looking for something more powerful, can anyone suggest something that may suit.

(I dont know if it matters but this will be used 50% Video Games (Xbox360), 40% Movies and 10% Music)

Cheers,
Brendan

Hey welcome Brendan - great to see you post and hope you post many more with the forum - you will get lots of help Im sure.

Im not rteally across surround set ups so ill leave some of the others to make some suggestion. You could also consider posting a WTB thread and see if any members have some 2nd hand gear that might be worth considering.

Cheers,

Andy

Hi Brendan,
As a very worthwhile alternative (and I would assume better sound/value), check these Klipsch systems from Graysonline. They are brand new and are at about a third to a quarter of retail. Ends tonight at 9.00pm - nut they have been running these auctions every few days for a few months. A few sets are appearing on ebay now too for not much more (bought off Grays and sold on ebay).

http://www.graysonline.com.au/catalogue.asp?SALE_ID=126770&SALE_TYPE=THUMB

Best of luck with it - remember with Grays include the buyers premium (in this case 15%), GST is included in this auction - and add their delivery fee (use their calculator). I have bought a fair bit of stuff off Grays and as long as you do your sums right, they are a great option.

Thanks for the link Danter, Ive had a look at the auction and it sounds good but I want to have a listen to the speakers I buy before I buy them, I'll try and find a retailer that has them so I can see if I like them and will keep an eye out for the next auction.

Im also considering the Wharfedale Diamond series now?!? There are too many options hahaha. I think I'll just go and have a listen and see what I like, probly end up spending double what I planned like usual :)

Well I went to JB today and made a purchase, I know its not the best but I ended up with an Onkyo 606 and a pair on Jensen QX45's, to my untrained ears they sound great especialy when compared to $20 JVC unit I have been using.

I decided the easiest way was to buy was in stages, so I just got the fronts for now and will get the sub and surrounds when the missus calms down a bit :)

Cheers,
Brendan

Well done, Bren

You'll end up with better kit this way

Enjoy

Congrats Bren on your purchase.

The other thing about purchasing in stages for a HT setup, is that at any time down the track you can move your previous fronts to the back as surrounds. Having said that, in this instance i'm sure you'll be pleased with the floorstanders for many a time to come.

Thanks guys,

Im really enjoying listening to something reasonable again, last half decent system I listened to was when I was living with my parents still. I never thought about it that way wonderchild (moving fronts to rears later) but it sound like a good idea and a good excuse to use when wanting to upgrade the fronts "but they weren't a waste of money sweetheart, the can be used as rear speakers now"
