I am wondering of how many hours do people spend in their HT . In mine 2 DVDS are watched during the evening , on the weekend at least 6 are watched . Countless number of Cd's are played in between . I never thought that visitors would enjoy a HT so much . They keep coming back . Home theatre sure is an addiction . Better go now and listen to some nice cool jazz . AlanM .

Hmm, mine probably gets the least use :) Maybe 1-2 DVD's per week. The screen mainly gets used to watch the news and a few TV shows (Gordon Ramsay for the win!!!).

I probably only watch on average 2 dvd's a week when home alone...............mostly music ones.
I have an extensive collection of movies for when I have guests (or grandchildren) over.
The movie mix is probably 50% kids and 50% adult (Noooooo, not like that!)

I watch on the HT (TV episodes, Movies etc.) about an average of 12Hrs a week. Compared to listening to music about 12 hours a week also. But a lot of the music listening is done passively while im sitting on the computer doing work.

I love my HT. I plan on building my HT up when I get a new house.

I usually only get the chance to watch 1 or 2 DVD's in a week, would like to watch more but it's hard to find the time. The kids watch movies all the time, probably close to 1 a day, not sure how much time the Mrs spends watching TV or movies during the day, more than she'd own up to i guess.:)

I make do with listening to music, which happens most nights.

I think this is a reflection of the quality of your set up, as well as your hospitality. It's not often friends are able to share in and benefit from ones passion in a pastime.

My wife is always watching Touched by an angel and all those girl movies . I suppose one can get more absorbed by a large screen . Kind regards , AlanM .

Girl movies I can tolerate, just finished watching Friends with the "significant other" a few moments ago. It's her addiction to reality Tv that caused me to draw a line in the sand.:)

Alan, unfortunately my answer would be zero but that is probably because I don't have a dedicated HT setup.............I tend to listen to music and ahhh, listen to music! Sad I know.:o I have heard a few really good HT setups and the best I'm sure was at Norpus's place and if that is indicative of HT than I'm all for it.:D I just need to be dragged from the 2ch hi fi to the HT I guess..........BTW, I think this entire hobby is an addiction.:)

Sooooo true.

Knockers of HT have never experienced a great HT setup.

If you think HIFI is expensive, try doing HT to the same lofty standards. I have barely begun my HT journey (im still only running 2.1ch), and know that I'll have to wait a few years, before adding to it :(

I'm hoping to add a few things to my HT this weekend.

Will keep you all posted.

We built our first dedicated home theatre in 1995/96, it was a converted games room.

It had a Seleco ceiling mounted CRT projector, 90” screen (4 X 3), with velvet curtains (Red), pelmets with hidden lighting, purpose built cinema seating, DVD player (in the days when a basic Pioneer was $1000 +), had 5.1 surround sound and was used for many hours each day by our children and friends. Audio system was set up in the lounge room.

Then we moved to a new house in 2000, purpose built with a dedicated HT and listening room.

HT had better equipment, Sony CRT projector 104” screen (16 X 9), more powerful amp, 7.1 surround system, gone was the silly curtains and seating. After a couple of years HT use was down to 1-2 DVD’s per week. We sold that house in 2005.

Started planning a new home, there was no home theatre at all.

A dedicated listening room was included, bigger than before. We moved in three weeks ago (don’t try building in the middle of a boom).

To be honest I could not think of a movie I would want to sit down and watch, if I did the main family room has a 120 cm LCD, which although we have all the surround sound equipment, probably 5-600 DVD’s, they are still boxed, with no inclination to set up, the room was all pre wired for surround sound.

All of the listening room is set up waiting for my new QUAD’s to be delivered next week, it may well be some time before the family room system is set up.

Does this mean that if I set up a good home theatre I will get some friends?

Do you have to feed these visitors and do they drink your beer? Do they play with your recliners ?? Do they bring their children?

Might not be worth it I reckon.

i like to savour the HT experience. With hopefully many years of movies and possible upgrades ahead of me, i like to keep things simple and perhaps watch 1 HD movie every week or two.

Mind you, perhaps if i was less busy and lived on my own i would watch more.

p.s - oh yeh...Kitchen Nightmares for the win. I'm pissed off it's not on now though!

At our place the HT is just part of our lfestyle.

Soon as the kids are down the HT fires up,if we turn it on any earlier they want to stay up.
Which is all fine but mid week its early nights for them.

I can't imagine life without it today.

When i was a kid , all we had was radio as TV did not exist .We were limited to a couple hours a night then bed .The weekends were different . I can remember how it was without .We did tend to go out visiting rallies and going to the pictures when dad could afford it. Every body socialised more than they do today . We are very fortunate to live in Australia and have what we got . Kind regards , AlanM .

Hi there - my name is Randy Stone - I cover the night beat for the daily. Stories start in many different ways This one began in .. and ended....

- we were allowed to stay up on SUnday night for the mystery hour right after Randy Stone in Night beat ...

On DVDs tho' we used to watch heaps when we first got our HT set up, but now it's mostly stereo music, with music DVDs occasionally and movies sometimes.

I watch a lot of movies and music DVDs, but am in the process of dismantling the system for a couple of years as I've gone back to school (in my forties) and wish to dedicate the time to other things, mainly study, music and fitness. A break from something usually means I'll enjoy it all the more when I return. System is currently a Pioneer receiver and speakers are all KEF with the beautiful 104/2's as mains (now for sale).

Whilst the HT is on hiatus, I'll be building 4 very large high efficiency speakers and subs with JBL, BMS and Eminence drivers (subs). Short term I'll use 2 of each as 2ch music only system, but all will be built at once and the others mothballed, at least partly because I need to pay for the drivers on the second pair. The drivers for the first pair, as well as all the amp parts are on hand. The break will also give me some time to decide upon a projector and screen, as well as saving for said beasties

I love movies from all eras and most genres, except gore and slashfests, and have seen about 95% of the stock in the local video store, many more than once.

Currently I watch maybe 6 movies/week, though good friday found me home alone and bored, so I've seen 4 today. I don't watch TV at all, and haven't for several years; it's dross.

ONLY THE SHADOW KNOWS WHAT EVIL LURKS IN THE HEART OF MAN:mad:
I have a dedicated separate home theatre and only use it during the day and occasionaly on weekend evenings.
I run a 6m screen and prefer to play at reference levels so during the day when most people are at work is best!!
Even then the better half says its too loud & reckons the whole house is shaking (the theatre is 50 m from the house)..could it be the twin 15" sub drivers?..and the neighbours will complain -but they haven't yet:p-
The only two shows I watch on TV are the movie show & top gear.
I would say
60% music in the listening room/office-on a mixture of computer,c/d & vinyl
10% H/T
10% ABC Classic on the Tivoli Model One in the kitchen during breakfast
10% In the lounge on Mum's selection of Michael Buble, Rod Stewart et al..
10% Via the headphones on the Nokia phone when I'm in the garden or on the ride-on mower
Don't you just love retirement???
Did I mention the car stereo..
