I'm currently interested in a preamp for sale.
Brand is SYMFORNIA.I know it was made in small quantities in melbourne
The only review that I have of any of this brand gear is from a HIFI news and record review from the early 90's and it wasn't very discriptive.
Iv'e searched the melbourne audio club for links to this brand but the links are out of date,so no joy there.
Since a lot of you guys are melbourne based maybe you could give me an impression of what this brand was/is about and is it worth purchasing.
Sorry nearly forgot it is an OPUS 8 preamp with seperate power supply.

Symfonia originaly was a high end audio store in Melbournes eastern suburbs. The two store owners Vince ? and ?? (shit memory) decided to shut shop and make amps. Quite expensive, very highly regarded and mainly sold into the USA market. They are no longer made.

Best place for info would be the forums at auidogon.com, l have seen these amps discussed there and you are sure to find several owners.

Cheers Simon

Thanks simon.
I knew they were HIGH END,as would be the price being asked.
Anybody know if they were CLASS A or not?
I'm just wondering about thermal drift of the various components over time that might of had an effect with this design, but having a seperate power supply I doubt it would be relevent with this particular unit.
Just curious.

Yes.
I asked the seller some questions and he just got back to me.he bought it new in 97.
He doesn't know if it class A or not, and although it has what looks like a ground connection on the rear, far right,it doesn't have a phono input.[I'm guessing this was an option that was not fitted to this unit]
The inputs [just for interest sakes are]
Input1,Input2,Tuner,Video,Tape.

It's obviously duel mono as the two seperate power supply connections give away.

Seems a nice bit of kit, pity no phono.....MMmmmm....think I'll have to give it some more thought .

Tweaky, did you have a poke around audiogon.com? You will find other owners and past threads on Symfonia there.

Just for the record, I bought a Wadia CD player from the same guy who is selling the Symphonia and had no problems with the deal.

Lucky you.
What model was it?
And ,just for interests sake.
What did it cost you?
A PM would do.
A VERY NICE bit of gear that you gathered with that auction.
Well Done,a person that actually Knows what is worth purchase.
