What happened to the money, did he kill the girlfriend, did he get away scot free, why did he kill the girl in the swiming pool area .The movie was just full of gore with a lot of unanswered stories . With a score of 100 I would give it 10 .A heap of rubbish . AlanM .

Here be spoilers:

The bad dude recovered the money. He killed the wife (who I guess you are referring to when you write "girlfriend"), as he promised Moss (the dude that stole the money) that the wife would be unharmed if Moss returned the cash. The cash was not returned, so the wife was killed, even though the bad dude got the money back by killing Moss. Thus the bad dude kept his word. The "girl in the swimming pool" was killed because she was a bystander in the way of the bad dude getting his money back. The act of the bad dude getting his money back and killing those in his way at the motel was not shown. In the end the bad dude got away.

Really, it was all there in the movie, no unanswered questions IMHO.

The ending is exactly per the book: the sheriff musing that the world is too dangerous for him to continue his job. He has woken up from his dream of what the world used to be.

I actually don't mind the ending, and I have now seen the flick 3 times. And for a change I think the BEST flick of the year actually won the Oscar. I have seen all the nominated films, and I was estatic for the Coens to finally get some well deserved plaudits for their efforts.

I did very much enjoy "There Will Be Blood" also and Daniel Day Lewis was brilliant in it as well.

Rented this for a second viewing. Yeah, he shot the wife. He checks to see if there is blood on the soles of his shoes as he leaves the house. And yeah, he has the money. The Mexicans left the motel in a hurry- empty handed- as TLJ pointed out. And yeah, bad guy was in the motel room and no, TLJ didn't know it. He saw the vent off the AC and thought he had been there alright, but earlier and had gone. TLJ was mystified by all this and retired to ponder WTF. Only the accountant is left to the imagination. That, and WHO WAS THIS DUDE?

For admirers of the Coen Bros, like me, I invite you to see their first movie, Blood Simple. In this the audience is aware of the events, nothing is left to the imagination like No Country, it's the charactors that don't have a clue as to what is happening to them! I don't know of a movie like it. Very clever boys, indeed, those Coen Bros, perhaps at their most clever in this. For their screen writing brillance, see Miller's Crossing. At their best when they are doing their own stuff, no doubt.

I'm a fan of the Coen Bros, looking forward to seeing No Country, so DON'T GIVE IT AWAY. I had to skim through the above posts real quick!

I love weird but did anyone see the Coen's Barton Fink? Bleeding wallpaper, heads in cardboard boxes? What did it mean?

Roho- When you see it, yell me/us if the money suitcase is in the motel room in El Paso when TLJ is in the room. And does TLJ see it before or after he holsters his gun? If so, what do you make of that? Got a buddy that says it was and that TLJ realizes at some point that he had been spared.
