hey guys

i picked up a fair chunky marantz amp about a year ago off ebay, and has served very well, driven some speakers very loud without getting anywhere near to the amps limitations

however one day i just lost out on stereo sound, both speakers played the left channel
nothing had been touched nor over used. cable seems fine, tried different set of speaker channels, and all with the same result

i checked the source with some headphones and its still playing stereo

is this sign typical of something?

thanks :)

I myself can't think of anything in the amp that would cause that! Most amps accept the signal in stereo, and the signal remains in stereo throughout the amplifier circuit. I would be more suspicious of your source.

only thing i guess to check is the cable that has served me well for like 10 years and never has been touched!

Some audio devices use a multiplex IC for switching or an IC to handle the volume (or other functions). These IC's usually have both left and right channels going through them, perhaps it could have gone faulty? It would be rare however and I don't know if the Marantz even has such a part..

Or an input selector switch could have gone faulty, even a wire loose on the inside..
