popped down to meet Andrew today and have a gawk at his setup.

A very pleasant and welcoming chap, and whilst obviously busy was more than happy to spend a couple of hours with me, even though he knew I was only stickybeaking. It was a suprisingly professional showroom and setup, puts some other HI FI stores I can think of to shame, and was a pleasure to chew the fat with you Andrew, thanks.

Look forward to your next get together!

lots of love

terry

Andrew is definately a top bloke. Always giving back to the forum and he never has a negative word to say about anyone. And his speakers speak for themselves, they are absolutely top notch.

Al, no one will ever convince me of LP's. The scratching, crackling sound really turns me off. Even the $250,000 system we listened to really offended my ears. They did nothing for me. Granted some of the cd's sounded poor but some of them sounded absolutely marvelous. Tori Amos' - Boys for Pele sounded sensational.

Yes we do need to convert Drizt to the joys of vinyl, these young whippersnappers of today just dont know what they're missing (says he sounding just like his father).

I'll try and arrange a free day when I'm down there, seriously dont fancy driving down one day, back the next. Then again after I empty Mondie's drinks cabinet I wont be in a fit state to get home anyway.

Norpus.............your shout I think...........haven't heard your setup yet.

Well I'm no young whippersnapper and I find that Vinyl seems very over-rated. Besides, isn't it a disposable form of music, once it's played the record grooves are never the same ? Might as well throw it away.
Please don't take this too seriously.
Yes I have a turntable

Of course vinyl is over-rated, it has more to do with nostalgia than performance, considering more than 5k needs to be dropped before they begin to sound just ok.
Even then they never do anything better than CD, though do plenty of things worse.
But then many people like the added warmth from the top end distortion and low end rumble they produce.

Rick, granted you need to spend some decent dosh on a turntable and phono stage, as well as a record cleaning mechanism of some description.
But, the important thing is that there is a market out there for valve amps, TT's, etc. I admit to being an old fart nostalgic, as well as enjoying the latest surround sound technology.
If I can provide quality solutions at realistic prices for both camps I intend to do so. It's just plain good business practice. (and a great deal of fun to boot)

[/b]I never said you shouldn't supply TT's, I to can supply TT solutions.
I also own a reasonable vinyl rig, I however also recognise it's limitations and am not interested in 'converting' anyone.

Vinyl can sound quite good, though I don't feel it appropriate to claim it is something that it isn't.

I grew up with vinyl. I think there is a charm to it. I do like its sound. I do have a CD player, do like its sound as well. Since buying a pretty reasonable turntable myself 4 years ago it unlocked all these discs I had that could not play previously, it was like openign a time capsule for me. Lot of memories etc. Lot of these discs you'd struggle to find on CD some over 40 years old and you'd be suprised of the quality of their sound. For me its another format with music on it I enjoy.

I'm suprised actually how popular vinyl is, think its had a bit of resurgence and infact for a supposedly dead format sells more Per annum than the SACD & DVD-A super disc formats combined. And there ceratinly must be people likeing its sound with the likes of bands & artists like st germain, air, madonna etc actually mixing in vinyl noises into their music on CD.

Same with valves, there are obviously plenty out there that like its sound(in all its flavours - lean clean neutral to coloured). And I for one have always had one component or the other in my system wth valves of some sort in there. To me to a certain extent I guess to me its more about the enjoyment than how ever means that might come.

Anyway this thread is about Andrew. And good on him for supporting both TT's and valves and havign the b@lls and insight to introduce into his setup, gtg's and the openess & willingness of sharing some of his enjoyment in his gear with us.

Sorry, wasn't meant to come across the way it did, certainly no angst.
Text can be difficult to express oneself at times as it shows no emotion.

Guys as always there is an ongoing contraversy over playback mediums,we know the same debate continues over hardware components as well.So until the time all our rooms and ears will be tuned the same, there will always be a different approach to listening and playback. All our auditioning is about what is added or not added to the mix.So until then we will all be listening to different sounds.
OH! and tried listening to vinyl again not so long ago and I was enjoying it until I wanted to skip a track or pause the thing. I had to get my fat arse of the couch

And next time the A man is in town for a gtg I'll try to make it this time.

I don't know about a love in guys???EEEUUWWW!!

I thought it was only good for making batter with and marinading barbequed onions in (yes DO try it).
